How to put together arrow spinners for board games – with pictures

Arrow spinners are a great way to expand your board game mechanics. You can use them to choose players, direction, instructions and they add a nice element of chance to your game.

They are also a staple of many classic games like Twister, Balderdash, Bermuda Triangle and many more – check out this Board Game Geek forum entry for some ideas.

If you find yourself in need of a new spinner, I’ve put together a quick guide on how to put them together so you’re ready to play as soon as possible!

A lot of spinners come in two parts. Like this.

These are the ones we sell in our shop but their design is pretty standard with ones that you’ll get inside a lot of board games. In most board games, they will come with them put together but if they don’t, just read on for more tips.

On a flat, stable surface place the round base down. Position the game card or paper around the inner circle that sticks up from the base. You may need to make a hole or trim down the card or paper so it fits snugly. The arrow has a cylinder sticking out from the bottom of it. Put this in the hole in the base. It will be a little wobbly.

Press down the centre of the arrow firmly on the middle circle until it clicks into place. Now test your spinner. It should spin smoothly and be ready to go.

We’ve been offering these spinners in our shop for about 7 years and they have a nice balance and spin well. They’ve been used for board games, TTRPGs, making planners and even creatively in artworks. I can’t wait to see what else they’re used for!

Play well my friends
